Flowcrete Donates to School for Myanmar Refugees

07 Dec 2017

  • Flowcrete’s donation will provide nutritional meals for the students.
  • The centre provides basic schooling and religious studies for Myanmar refugees.

Flowcrete Asia has recently donated to a learning centre for Myanmar refugees in Wangsa Permai, Kuala Lumpur.

ZO Blessed Refugees Childcare Centre is a learning centre that was founded six years ago by the teachers No Suan Huai, known as Mary, and Kham Pum Thang, known as Thang. The centre provides basic schooling and religious studies for Myanmar refugees who have fled from Myanmar and are currently residing in Malaysia.

The learning centre is dependent on donations and support from the UNHCR and surrounding community. Many of the classes have regular volunteer teachers who generously give time to teach English and other subjects as well as organise fun activities for the children.

Craig Brookes and wife Karen Brookes have been long term supporters of the refugee community in Malaysia. Karen visits the school several times a week to help a class of students study English.

Karen Brookes says: “The centre provides a safe place for the children to continue their studies, regardless of their family’s personal circumstances. There are currently over 60 students at the centre, with ages ranging from 2 to 14 years old, all of whom are eager to learn as much as they can from the volunteers.”

Flowcrete’s donation will provide nutritional meals for the students for approximately nine months. Good quality meals will be important for the childrens’ development and focus, while also taking some pressure off the school’s finances, allowing the centre to invest more into its resources.

Flowcrete representatives Will Facer and Jacob Atwell joined Karen to visit the centre to present the cheque and put on a morning of fun activities for the students.
