Hau Cheung Street Refuse Collection Point, Hong Kong

Hygienic Floors For Waste Disposal Collection Point

Hau Cheung Street Refuse Collection Point is a brand-new building connected to Hong Kong’s 100-year-old Yau Ma Tei Fruit Wholesale Market. When completed in mid-2021, it will be subjected to heavy load from garbage trucks, trolleys and foot traffic coming from the busy market.

A durable, long-lasting, hygienic and easy-to-clean flooring solution is required to meet the challenges of heavy daily usage. Tremco CPG Hong Kong undertook the project in end-2020 and Flowcrete’s Flowfresh system was selected to meet the client’s requirements.

The application started by installing over 700 m² of Isocrete K-Screed HDP 50mm, a semi-dry cementitious screed, across the concrete floor together with Polymer 70, a bonding agent and screed additive. Isocrete-K was chosen largely due to its quick-drying and fast-curing properties, as well as its high compressive strength and ability to create a level floor ideal for a resin finish.

Over 700 m² of the robust resin-based polyurethane floor coating, Flowfresh SR (4mm) was then applied to provide a hygienic, hard-wearing, slip and chemical resistant finish. The HACCP international certified Flowfresh range contains the antimicrobial agent Polygiene®, which is able to inhibit the growth of bacteria by up to 99.9% in order to meet stringent hygiene standards.

Finally, Euco QWIKjoint UVR, a fast-setting, semi-rigid polyurea commonly used for filling construction and control joints in industrial and commercial concrete floors, was applied to the completed flooring to support and protect joint edges to prevent them from spalling.

The flooring project was completed in May 2021.
