Sultan Ismail Building, Malaysia

Deckshield Takes Care of Outdoor Car Park

The Sultan Ismail Building completed in 1942, is a historic building and a landmark feature in the city of Johor Bahru. As a State Legislative Assembly Building, it is Johor’s seat of authority and the location of Malaysia’s first parliament that was open to the public. The building is located at Kota Iskandar, Johor Bahru District, where it integrates with other landmark government buildings that has resulted in Kota Iskandar becoming the administrative centre for the state government of Johor since 2009.

After 10 years of wear and tear, the building’s outdoor car park was in need of an upgrade. The owner, the state government, required it to become attractive and safe for staff and visitors. Flowcrete Asia was selected to supply the job. The primary task of a floor coating for an outdoor car park is to provide reliable and lasting protection against damages to the surface from continuous exposure to climate and temperature changes. As well as protecting against Malaysia’s hot and frequently stormy weather, the coating also needs to provide excellent resistance against oil and other abusive liquids often found in car park environments.

Approximately 1,200m2 of Flowcrete Asia’s Deckshield LBD polyurethane car park protection system was applied to meet the stringent requirements of the state government. This system was chosen as it provides a UV stable, seamless, hard wearing surface that incorporates an advanced moisture dissipation barrier which will minimise damages from rising moisture.

The installation was completed in under a month in August 2019, welcoming government servants working in the buildings and visitors.
