Islands Medical Complex, Macau

Driving Style and Safety Underfoot at Macau’s Largest Medical Complex

The Islands Medical Complex in Macau is a prestigious development sprawling over 77,000 m2 with a massive construction area of 320,000 m2. It is designed to be a comprehensive medical hub, encompassing an emergency room, a government hospital, a nursing school, and a rehabilitation centre. Opening in phases starting from the end of 2023, this complex stands as a beacon of cutting-edge healthcare and educational progress, setting a new standard for excellence in the region.

To accommodate the high volume of daily traffic expected in such an establishment, Flowcrete was chosen for its excellent reputation in providing resilient and environmentally friendly solutions suitable for spaces with heavy vehicular movement.

More than 38,000 m2 of Flowcrete’s Deckshield car park coating systems were installed throughout the complex’s car park decks. Deckshield IDEP, a green-label-certified polyurethane system with a solvent-free epoxy damp primer was used to coat the lower basement car park because of its adaptability to humid conditions. For the intermediate decks, Deckshield ID was used to provide a clean, safe, and visually appealing surface durable enough to handle day-to-day traffic. Lastly, to combat potentially slippery zones such as deep ramps, Deckshield IDSD High Grade was installed to provide a highly textured, anti-slip finish by incorporating bauxite/emery aggregate. In this way, the deck surface will help in maintaining grip and preventing accidents in these critical areas.

Deckshield’s all-encompassing flooring solutions guarantee a secure and resilient foundation for the medical complex’s car park while enhancing the overall image of the impressive infrastructure, delivering a safe, durable, and appealing environment for all staff, patients, and guests.
